Arabic is one of the most ancient and globally significant languages, ranking among the five most widely spoken languages in the world, with over 400 million speakers across continents. It is one of the official languages of the United Nations and functions as an official or co-official language in 24 countries. Moreover, Arabic holds profound religious importance as the sacred language of Islam and continues to serve as a medium of religious, cultural, intellectual, and scholarly discourse worldwide. Arabic language plays significant role in promoting India’s long term relations with the Arab world, as well as providing job opportunities in several fields.
The Department of Arabic was established in 1969, the same year Chanchal College was founded. It is one of the oldest Departments of Arabic. Since its inception, the Department has consistently strived to uphold academic excellence in Arabic language and literature.
The Department addresses the academic and professional aspirations of students from diverse socio-cultural backgrounds. Over the decades, it has produced numerous distinguished alumni who have contributed significantly in the fields of education, civil services, research, administration, and social development.

Multidisciplinary Course (MDC) in Arabic
The curriculum is comprehensive, structured in accordance with contemporary academic frameworks, and designed to integrate both classical and modern dimensions of Arabic studies. It encompasses the history and literary evolution of Arabic from the pre-Islamic period to the modern age. Special emphasis is placed on translation studies, grammar, rhetoric, linguistics, and critical literary analysis.
